COVID-19 wreaks havoc on 2020 season

For months now, Nebraska Slow Pitch has steadily amped-up everyone's readiness for the 2020 season, but just over two weeks ago with the outbreak of COVID-19, all of that has changed.

At this point, no one is sure when the season will officially kick or if it will even happen?

Locally, the starting dates for leagues have been pushed back while the Pre-Season in Fremont on March 28, the Spring Swing in Kearney on April 3-4

and April Boom in Fremont on April 4 have all been cancelled. Everyone is now waiting to see what the fate is for the Fat Guys Rake tournament in Council Bluffs and Hurts Donut tournament in Grand Island will be, which are both set for April 11.

Next up is the Early Bird in Grand Island on April 18 and organizers are working with the city to see what the possibility is for re-scheduling it in order to keep it on the schedule, while the Spring Fling in Crete, originally scheduled for April 25, has already been moved to Sept. 19.

Nationally, things are not any better. USA Softball has cancelled all events through April and will get together to discuss their options in mid-April. And as far as USSSA goes, they have said they will not sanction any events until further notice.

For now, everyone should listen to health regulations and do their best to stay healthy.
