Schedule set for 2019 I-29 Softball Series

The team with the most points in the end is awarded $550 with the runner-up earning $250. In addition, each event will have its own payouts and prize packages.

Finally, all teams that play in at least three events are entered into a drawing for a set of Berserk spot dye jerseys (the top place finisher and runner-up are not eligible to win).

“The idea of five points to show and five points per win comes straight out of the TV show, ‘Street Outlaws No Prep Kings,’” Preston said. “If it needs to be tweaked after year one, then it will be.”

If all goes well, Preston said he will consider expanding the series in the years ahead.

“We want to walk before we run with the series,” he said. “If we are successful in year one, we will look at expansion and that could mean St. Joseph, Missouri, Watertown, S.D. or possibly just adding another event in each of the current cities.”

All tournaments in the I-29 series will be sanctioned by USA Softball.

The schedule is set for the 2019 I-29 Softball Series including four tournaments in Council Bluffs, Sioux City and Sioux Falls.

The I-29 series will utilize a point system for all four events where the champion walks away with a cash payout at the conclusion.

“The goal is to grow the participation level at the tournaments and create fun rivalries that force teams to get better,” said Adam Preston, I-29 Softball Series director. “I also feel that the bigger events are always more fun to play in.”

The I-29 begins its inaugural campaign with the Sioux City Early Bird on April 27-28.

“Hopefully, this will start a yearly series that can pump some life into a shrinking sport,”  Preston said.

The series then moves to Sioux Fall on May 18-19 for the Spring Classic before returning to Sioux City on June 8-9 for the Soldier’s Tournament.

“The Sioux Falls Spring Classic is a great event with an outstanding reputation,” Preston said.

The finale takes place in September in Council Bluffs.

Each tournament participant receives five points for entering. Each C bracket win earns teams five points, D bracket wins are worth four points while E bracket wins are worth two points. A loss in any of the three results in one point.

Winning the event championship will earn teams 15 additional points and teams that play in three events earn 30 points while those playing in all four earn an additional 15.
